Eglwysbach Appointment Booking Process 2024/25
In line with Welsh Government guidance concerning Access standards within Primary Care, we would like
patients to be fully aware of the process for booking an appointment with our Practice. We endeavour to maintain
a planned and forward-looking approach to consultations and undertake a regular assessment of our
appointment system to ensure a mix of face to face, telephone, urgent, on the day and pre-bookable
appointments.
Occasionally, where appropriate, you may be advised to seek a review elsewhere, via the principles of prudent
healthcare and Care Navigation, e.g. your local optician or pharmacy; a mental health practitioner or
physiotherapist, or alternatively you may be advised to attend A&E or a local minor injuries/illness unit if this is
more clinically appropriate.
Urgent Issues:
Emergency appointments can be obtained by ringing the surgery and explaining you feel that it is a problem that
needs seeing ‘on the day’. You may be asked for a basic description of the problem to help the sta and GPs
prioritise appropriately. Emergency slots can be either face to face or via telephone.
Our GPs will endeavour to deal with all appropriate urgent requests on the same day. Once we are ‘full’ for the
day, we will continue to take emergency triage details from patients that request our urgent assistance that day.
However, it will be at the GP’s discretion if your problem warrants same day attention (based on the information
you provide) so please oer as much relevant detail to our sta as possible.
For certain issues, we will provide you with an appointment with the practice nurse if your symptoms are
appropriate for them to assess / manage.
If you feel your need is urgent we ask that you contact us as early as possible in the day to allow the GP to
prioritise their workload accordingly. Telephone lines open at 8am.
Routine / Non-Urgent Issues:
We oer pre-bookable GP appointments (both face-to-face and telephone) which are made available between 24
hours and 4 weeks in advance. A selection of these is released daily. Pre-bookable appointments tend to get
booked very quickly once released and whilst we regularly monitor our availability, there will be times when there
are no suitable pre-bookable appointments available. We will endeavour to provide more availability at the
earliest opportunity.
Home visits
Home visits are for patients who are housebound or who clinically are too unwell to attend surgery. You will be
asked to give the receptionist some idea of what is wrong so that the Doctor can assess the urgency of the call.
Please call us before 10am if you feel you may need a home visit.
Non-clinical matters
In addition (or as an alternative), you may utilise our online contact form for various administrative tasks such as
prescription requests and follow-on fit notes. Please note this is not to be used for general clinical queries -

The above principles also apply to making appointments with our practice nursing and pharmacist teams,
although there may be some reasonable variation.
