Many thanks!  Covid-19 update, Basement refurbishment and Flu jabs

6/9/2020

The whole team  working across our Eglwysbach, Tonteg and Ynysybwl Surgeries would like to thank all our patients and their families / carers for your ongoing support and patience in what continues to be a very challenging time for us after February's flooding, which was swiftly followed by the pandemic.  We appreciate these unprecedented events have impacted on so many of you also.

As a result of updated Public Health Wales Guidance, and in a bid to continue to protect  all those patients who need to visit the surgery (as well as our staff), we ask that from Monday 7th September:-
  • All patients and their carers over the age of 11  please wear a face covering or mask when visiting the surgery.
  • Patients continue to stay 2 metres apart from each other in waiting areas where possible - this may involve waiting outside, or in the car if the waiting area is full.
  • Patients, (unless vulnerable or under 16), attend the surgery alone to help us accommodate as many patients in the waiting areas as we can.  When required, one carer/family member can attend with prior notice to our staff.
  • Any patients who are self-isolating with potential symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, new cough, loss of sense of smell/taste) or who have a close family contact with the same symptoms - do not attend the surgery but call NHS 119 if they need a COVID-test, or please call the surgery if they need medical advice or are concerned about their symptoms.
  • Any patients in quarantine following travel abroad, must not attend the surgery but can call us if they have concerns regarding their health.

We continue to need to minimise face-to-face contact with patients for public health reasons, and to achieve this we still need to triage all emergency appointments.  Please be assured that if we feel you need to see a doctor for examination etc after we have completed our triage call, then you will be given an appointment to come to surgery.

Please call as early in
the day as possible if you have an urgent issue that requires the attention of a doctor or nurse on that day. Routine (non-emergency) requests should all be made by 1pm each day, to ensure we can deal with every request by the end of that day.  You can also request a routine, pre-bookable telephone call with a doctor or pharmacist, or use our e-consult system for other routine administrative, medication and clinical queries, where you are guaranteed a response by the end of the next working day.

Our dental, optician and pharmacy colleagues are also still dealing with any urgent eye, mouth or common ailment issues such as nits, worms, minor rashes and hay-fever respectively.

We look forward to welcoming patients to our newly refurbished basement level at Eglwysbach, which has been extensively renovated following the severe flood damage in the winter storms, and so in the coming weeks (after more than 6 months!) it should be fully operational!

We are also putting plans in place to soon restart joint injections, and continue to follow Welsh government and Cwm Taf University Healthboard advice regarding the safe recommencement of other primary care services.

Flu clinic should be up and running from later this month - please contact the surgery for details of this over the next few weeks.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your support, in what has perhaps been the most challenging period in our practice history.  We can appreciate the significant changes that have taken place in all our lives, and certainly within Primary Care during this time; particularly in regard to how we now work across all our surgeries to manage the significant increase in workload, whilst at the same time respecting the restrictions and limitations we now all face due to the pandemic.

Please continue to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe, by staying up to date with current government advice and instructions.
